Planned Publication on Complexity

Contribute to our upcoming interdisciplinary volume on Complexity.

The world we inhabit is increasingly complex. This book systematically examines the multidimensional nature of complexity, intending to elucidate its underlying structures and dynamics and assess how these insights may be leveraged to advance the development of a sustainable, just, and resilient future. Our approach is intended to be genuinely interdisciplinary, blending insights from traditionally distant fields into accessible, thought-provoking contributions intended for both academic and informed non-academic audiences.

We welcome short chapter proposals that:

  • address timely and significant aspects of complexity,
  • emerge from interdisciplinary collaborations, ideally spanning distant and complementary disciplines,
  • involve both senior and early-career researchers,
  • are written in a style that is accessible across disciplines and to a broad readership, including the general academic public, policymakers, and educators interested in complexity.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas you would like to discuss.

We are very much looking forward to your contributions.

  • Change
  • Energy
  • Evolution
  • Time
  • Learning
  • Justice (e.g., inequalities in cities)

  • War
  • Migration
  • Resilience
  • Art and expression
  • Water and resources
  • Fallibility of research (e.g., with Lego, we teach our children how humans make technology)
  • Magic

Q&A

  • Is this an academic or outreach contribution?
Each chapter should be a scholarly contribution, written in a style accessible across disciplines and to a broad readership, including the general academic public, policymakers, and educators interested in complexity.
  • Is shared authorship mandatory, or can I submit an individual chapter?
Contributions must be collaborative, the fruit of genuine interdisciplinary synergy between at least two scholars
  • Would a collaboration between a theoretical and an experimental physicist count as interdisciplinary?
We strongly encourage engaging in truly interdisciplinary collaboration between distant disciplines on topics of common interest.
  • Can we invite collaborators external to the JQYA?
Yes, collaboration is not restricted to JQYA academics, but should rely on the sole criterion of research quality.
  • Do I need to be part of the JQYA?
At least one of the authors should be linked to the JQYA.
