The Membership and Fellowship status will be delivered as award in the middle of every year in an official ceremony.

Every year in spring we announce our new Academy Theme of the year and call for Fellows. All candidates shall send their digital applications in a single PDF-file. For further information, please refer to our annual advertisements.

  • International partner universities: Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; Fudan University Shanghai, China; Osaka University, Japan; Tel Aviv University, Israel; University of Birmingham, UK; University of Pennsylvania, USA; University of Toronto, Canada.

Required documents

Evaluation and Selection

The evaluation of the applications and selection of the Fellows is carried out by the Distinguished Senior Scientists. Up to ten Fellows are nominated each year based on:

(i) excellence of the candidate’s research impact;

(ii) well-stated link to the Academy Theme;

(iii) strong personal motivation to work in an academy.

Every applicant will be notified by email about the outcome of the evaluation.

Announcement

Members can apply and accede to the JQ Young Academy at any time. There is no call for Members.

Eligibility

As Members, we can only accept independent group leaders and W1 / W1 tenure-tracked assistant professors (German: Junior-Professors) from the Goethe University, with a self-funded own position for at least 5 years recently obtained through a highly-competitive procedure, such as an ERC starting grant, ERC consolidator grant, Emmy Noether-Programm, Freigeist-Fellowship, Heisenberg-Programm or similar.

Required documents

  • CV with list of publications and conference participation
  • Letter indicating how the grant would be used (one-page outline)
  • Proof of the financial resources awarded
  • Statement from the hosting faculty confirming the payment of a faculty contribution during the entire membership time period

Evaluation and Selection

The applicant will be invited for an interview. The final approval of the membership depends on the hosting faculty’s agreement to the faculty contribution, as described in the section “Support line for Members”.

Because there is only a limited budget available each year for “Science funding”, we are not able to grant more than three Members per year from experimental fields.
